Mesotherapy Gets Results With Cellulite

Unlike liposuction which removes large quanities of fat, mesotherapy is a non surgical procedure that primarily addresses cellulite. Mesotherapy is a 50 year old French medical treatment with certain cosmetic uses such as smoothing cellulite, rejuvenating skin and dissolving small pockets of fat.

Liposuction does not remove fat from the areas where cellulite lies, therefore it does not get rid of cellulite. It does not lessen the appearance of cellulite. In fact, if ones’ skin is lax due to age or excessive weight loss, cellulite can be more apparent than before.

Mesotherapy results are very patient specific. Not all people respond the same with those who tend to be active, and healthy responding the best over a course of treatments, however, proponents of mesotherapy say that nothing comes close to the results that mesotherapy gets with cellulite.

Liposuction Is Not A Solution For Obesity

Liposuction is an effective technique for fat removal, but it is not a solution for obesity. Extremely obese individuals incapable of losing weight through regular techniques will not benefit from liposuction.

The ideal candidates for liposuction are in good health, exercise regularly and are not more than 20 pounds overweight. People with very localized, exercise-resistant fatty deposits may obtain the best results.

Always consult with a qualified physician before under going liposuction surgery.

Liposuction Doctor Who Operated On Kanye West’s Mother Surrenders His Medical License

According to People.com, Dr. Jan Adams, the plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West’s mother right before her death, has surrendered his medical license.

In November 2007, Dr. Jan Adams performed several surgeries on Kanye West’s mother, Donda West, including liposuction and breast reduction. She died the next day after returning to her Los Angeles home. Adams, a plastic surgeon, who appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and once had his own television program, has given up his license to practice medicine in the state of California.

“A series of complaints were filed against Mr. Adams, but he chose to surrender his license instead of contest them,” California Medical Board spokeswoman Candis Cohen told the site.

According to People, the cited complaints involve two convictions for driving under the influence and failure to pay child support. Dr. Adams also had at least four malpractice judgments against him between 2001 and 2007.

It was not clear whether any of the complaints were directly related to Ms. West’s death.

An autopsy performed on the 58-year-old West concluded that she died of heart failure. The report said that “coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors due to or as a consequence of liposuction and mammoplasty” led to her sudden death and that “there was no evidence of surgical or anesthetic misadventure.”

Dr. Adams has said that there were no complications during West’s surgery. According to the autopsy report, she walked out of the clinic several hours after the procedures with heavy bandages and prescription for the painkiller Vicodin. West returned to her home in Los Angeles, despite advice that she should continue to receive post-operative care. The next morning, she began to feel more pain and had difficulty breathing. However, she “was left unattended and found unresponsive on the bed,” according to the report. Friends called 911 and West was rushed to Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on November 10, 2007.

“As far as I’m concerned … at least the autopsy report suggests nothing went on during surgery, nothing went on during recovery,” Dr. Adams told CNN’s Larry King in January 2008. Several months earlier, the plastic surgeon had walked off the set during King’s live broadcast, saying, “I’m going to apologize to you because I think I’m taking up your airtime, but I will not be on the show and I will not discuss any of that. I’m going to honor their wishes.”

Woman Dies Undergoing Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures done today. Serious complications, altough rare, do occur such as stroke, blood clots, allergic reactions and even death.

Mayalsian newspapers carried the story of a company managing director who died following liposuction, with Kosmo! front-paging the story and including a picture of her in a yellow baju kurung.

Noraini Mohd Ghazali, 30, managing director of a laboratory supplies company, died at a clinic in Ampang during a follow-up procedure.

Apparently, Noraini. who weighed between 50kg and 53kg before she started the treatment, had gone for treatment 14 times since December 2007.

According to the doctor who treated her, she vomited three times after he gave her an anaesthetic injection before starting the procedure, and efforts to resuscitate her failed.

Noraini’s adoptive sister Misha Abu Bakar, 46, said she was baffled when she had to wait about four hours for her instead of the usual less than an hour’s treatment.

“At 5pm, I saw several nurses going up and down the stairs in a panicky state and demanded that they tell me what happened,” she said.

Misha said Noraini had complained that her hip hurt for the past month and she could not sit or sleep comfortably.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council president Mohammad Yacob said the clinic had a proper licence and that police had classified the case as sudden death.

Liposuction & Facelift Given Without Consent Claims Patient

The Associated Press reports on March 20th:

The California Medical Board has accused two Orange County doctors of botching plastic surgeries, with one patient claiming she received unwanted liposuction and a facelift when she only agreed to a tummy tuck.

The board filed accusations of gross negligence and incompetence this month against Dr. Harrell Robinson of Anaheim Hills and Dr. Shir Miskinyar of Santa Ana.

One woman claims Robinson performed abdominal surgery on her but she woke up to find he also gave her a face lift and liposuction, according to medical board documents. The head and neck surgeon is also accused of borrowing $15,000 from the woman and forcibly kissing her.

Another patient who had her breast implants replaced was later admitted to the hospital after Robinson failed to remove an implant that was visible in an open wound.

Robinson could not be located for comment.

The medical board documents said Miskinyar, who works at All Beauty Plastic Surgery in Santa Ana, performed breast augmentation on two women who developed infections and had to have their implants removed.

Miskinyar told the Orange County Register one patient already had an infection before surgery and the other did not heal properly because she smoked.

“I have the best record in the whole community of Southern California,” Miskinyar said.

Both doctors could lose their licenses or be reprimanded if a review of evidence substantiates the allegations.

Liposuction Is Now Second Most Popular Cosmetic Procedure

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic
Surgery over 10.2 cosmetic procedures were performed in the
United States in 2008. The most frequently performed nonsurgical
procedure was Botox injections and the most popular surgical
procedure was breast augmentation.

“For the first time in the twelve years these statistics
have been collected, liposuction is a runner up in popularity to
breast augmentation. There is no doubt that this turnabout will
generate discussions in the medical community and the public at
large,” Alan Gold, MD, Aesthetic Society president,
reflected. “Changes in fashion, i.e. decolletage baring
styles, might be a factor behind this change.”

ASAPS, working with an independent research firm, compiled the
12-year national data for procedures performed 1997-2008. A paper-based
questionnaire was mailed to 16,000 Board-Certified physicians (6,000
Dermatologists, 6,000 Otolaryngologists, and 4,000 Plastic
Surgeons). A total of 894 completed and valid responses (461
Plastic Surgeons, 277 Dermatologists, and 156 Otolaryngologists)
were received in time for tabulation.

Final figures have been projected to reflect nationwide
statistics and are based exclusively on the Board-Certified
Plastic Surgeons; Otolaryngologists; and Dermatologists. The
findings have been aggregated and extrapolated to the known
population of 23,600 physicians who are Board Certified in these
specialties. Though the confidence intervals change by procedure,
depending on the grouping’s sample size and the response
variance, the overall survey portion of this research has a
standard error of +/- 3.21% at a 95% level of confidence.

The top five surgical procedures in 2008: Breast Augmentation

  • Liposuction
  • Eyelid Surgery
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Abdominoplasty

The top five non-surgical procedures in 2008:

  • Botox
  • Laser Hair Removal
  • Hyaluronic acid wrinkle fillers (Juvederm, Restylane)
  • Chemical Peel
  • Laser Skin Resurfacing

What Are the Differences Between Mesotherapy and Liposuction?

There are many differences between mesotherapy and liposuction. The following are just a few of the differences:

1. Mesotherapy is limited in the amount of fat it can remove and it is not beneficial to areas of significant fat accumulation.  Liposuction is designed to remove large amounts of fat.

2. Mesotherapy results are very patient specific. Not all patients respond the same. Patients  who tend to be active  and healthy seem to respond the best over a course of treatments. Liposuction is more consistent since the fat is mechanically removed. Typically larger quantities of may be removed with liposuction whereas  mesotherapy targets smaller specific areas.  Liposuction, though, poses a significantly greater risk since the patient undergoes either local or general anesthesia.

3. With Mesotherapy, if a patient regains weight, the fat cells that were treated simply get large again and the previously treated area regains it’s normal size. With Liposuction, since the fat cells were removed, other areas of the body can accumulate fat if significant weight is regained. Typically this occurs under the upper arm, the back, and the thighs.
